When my wonderful wife first talked me into the idea of having my own blog I decided I was going to go all in and be ultra dedicated to it. As you may have noticed, that lasted less than a week. That would be my wonderful friend ADHD, and all of the other crazy shit that has happened since. I have 3 posts in draft form that were never completed and are now out of date (I was really excited about the news of the upcoming F2P Mechwarrior Online and had close to a thousand words written but was still not done and there has been so many more updates since then that I just scrapped it) so really, whats the point.
Well lets talk about what has happened to me since my last blog post. My wife, as you may know, was pregnant and was having a particularly hard time of it. She was oh so close to being put on bed rest so I had many additional duties that kept me very busy. My parents were going on a 3 week Trans-Atlantic cruise that would start the week of Thanksgiving. Due to this we celebrated Thanksgiving at my paternal grandmothers two weekends before. It was a good day and my kids spent a lot of time with my Uncles and my Grandma. The next day I get woken up by my wife telling me that my Uncle was being raced to the hospital and that it didn’t look good. I was trying to keep in contact with my family to see what news they had. Then I received the news I was dreading when my mom called me and told me my uncle had died. My dad’s side of the family is really close and my kids adored my dad’s brothers and the feelings were mutual and it hit us very hard. My uncle was one of the gentlest souls you could ever meet and paid attention to anyone who wanted a moment of his time and made you feel included and wanted. My eldest son had spent the majority of that Thanksgiving celebration talking to him about hunting, which my son was really looking forward to. The death was so unexpected, we believe it was an aneurism, that everyone was in shock and it still hasn’t hit some of us that he is gone.
The day after we had this awful news we took our two boys to the doctor because the oldest had pain in his hip that was getting worse and the little one was sick. The youngest had pneumonia and the oldest they wanted to do additional tests to figure it out. They did x-rays and then sent the photos to a orthopedic surgeon who said right away for us to go to the emergency room and they would run additional tests there. After an MRI and an aspiration of his hip they came to us with a revelation that my oldest son had a slipped growth plate in his hip which required surgery to place a screw that would hold his hip together. This was a particular blow to my son because all he had been talking about for months was deer hunting season which was to start that upcoming weekend. After the surgery the doctor dropped the hammer and said he would have to be in a wheelchair and on crutches for 6 weeks and had to keep all weight off of the leg. This meant no deer hunting and he wasn’t even good enough to go to my uncle’s funeral that weekend.
After the funeral my parents left for their cruise the next day. My son went to stay with my wife’s parents so that he would have an easier time recuperating and we had a pretty uneventful week. Life was just full of things to do for the next couple of weeks and then my wife went into labor and her water broke on December 16th, with the birth of our wonderful gorgeous amazing daughter Baby Bean at 1:48am December 17th. I have been doing all of my daddy duties and keeping busy and then tonight the old ball and chain asked me to write a blog post so this is what you get. Hopefully I can keep up with it and write about something nerdy soon though I may not get much of a chance to play any of the new games coming out (thought I have been playing a lot of Diablo 2 in anticipation for Diablo 3) so we will see how this all works out. I am not going to make any promises but I will do my best to find the time to contribute to this new fangled contraption.
